Becoming

Oct 1–31, 2026

Forma Contemporary Art is proud to present Becoming, a solo exhibition by Charleston artist Demetrius Bing. A Charleston native and self-taught artist, Bing is known for his expressive use of color, layered imagery, and bold, gestural approach to painting. Becoming reflects an artist continuing to explore, evolve, and find new depth within his practice. Our relationship with Demetrius began in 2024, when Wendy discovered his work at a small art market in North Charleston. She immediately connected with the energy and honesty in his paintings and knew they deserved a larger audience. We were the first gallery to exhibit his work in Charleston as an emerging artist, and it has been incredibly rewarding to watch his practice—and his career—grow over the past two years. Becoming is a celebration of that continued evolution. The exhibition offers a look at where Demetrius has been, where he is now, and where his work is headed next. Join us at Forma to experience the newest chapter of a local artist we have been proud to champion from the beginning.
